Kevin Varty

Kevin Varty knew it was only a matter of time before he became a railroad artist. He credits his mom for giving him his start – a paint-by-numbers set when he was a child. A major in college followed, as did classes with noted artists and animators in southern California. He attributes his emphasis on railroad art to the fact that he’s worked for two Class I railroads, including 20 years as a Conductor for the Union Pacific. He works in pencil, acrylics and oils, sometimes all of them in a single work. “In reality,” he notes, “I just like to create what I would like to see hanging on my walls.”
