David Tutwiler began painting when he was fourteen years old, having earned a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago. He next studied at and graduated from the American Academy of Art, where he majored in Fine Art. Today David is one of the pre-eminent painters of steam-era railroading in America, and regarded by many as a leading authority on railroad art in the United States. Combining first-hand knowledge with an eye for accuracy and attention to detail, his paintings evoke both warmth and comfortable recognition. His other works include American landscapes as well as coastal and Great Lakes subjects.
