Marion S. Thompson took up oil painting during retirement after 30 years in information technology. He has no formal training as an artist, but has always wanted to try his hand at painting steam locomotives, particularly those of the Colorado narrow gauge. Born and raised in Texas, Marion has fond memories of the steam locomotives that were still in use during his boyhood. A family trip to Colorado at age 16 left him with a passion for the more human scale motive power used on the three foot gauge. His paintings are an attempt to portray the complexity and elegance of the engineering required to drive an outside-frame Mikado down the track in the performance of its daily duties. Marion now lives in Helena, Montana and his work is available at the Mountain Sage Gallery.
